The song, “Dance With My Father” is a beautiful and touching song about the relationship between a father and child. It has been performed by many singers, including Celine Dion, Tamyra Gray, Kellie Coffie, and Luther Vandross. So, who wrote the song, “Dance With My Father”?
The song was actually written by Luther Vandross, along with help from Richard Marx, who you may remember from his popularity in the 1980’s, when he had hits such as “Satisfied” and “Right Here Waiting”. Luther Vandross himself wanted to write the song to dedicate to his father, who had recently passed away. Luther used to dance with his father as a child, and wanted to write a song that could commemorate the wonderful times he had with his dad. He used the song as the title track for an album, also entitled “Dance With My Father”.
Since then, the song has become an unofficial anthem for fathers and their sons (and daughters, too!), because of its heartfelt lyrics that can bring a tear to the eye of even the toughest dads. The versions by Celine Dion and other female singers are a big hit for weddings, where many brides have chosen to dance with their dad while listening to it.
