Dads to the Baby Fathers Birth Ward

There has been a lot of talk in the UK lately, specifically about the right rights of dads to the baby fathers birth ward. Many fathers have lamented the fact that after attending the birth of their child, they are basically “kicked out” as it were, and left to wander the streets or spend a night alone at home, away from their wife and newborn child.

This kind of thing seems to stem from the antiquated belief that fathers aren’t the ones who are responsible for caring for babies, as men are also not included on many classes and appointments before and after the birth of a baby, too. It seems that the message being sent is that only the woman needs to be present with the baby, when the modern view is that men and women are responsible for raising children together, as a team.

There’s nothing worse as a new dad than to be led off almost immediately after your baby is born, and made to leave the ward where your wife and baby are. After all, a woman who’s just given birth needs to rest, and even if the father is only able to do small things to help, a new mother certainly appreciates all the help she can get.

This also is important because it sets the tone of how the parenting responsibilities will be shared for the entirety of the baby’s life! By sending the father off and basically telling the mother to take care of the baby herself, what kind of message does the NHS send?
