More Adobe Lightroom 2.0 Upgrades

Through even more investigation, I’ve come up with a list of even more features to be gained from upgrading to Adobe Lightroom 2.0. Some may be of great value to you, while others not so much. Let’s take a look.

  • Post crop vignetting finally works correctly. Before this latest version, you had to export the image out to photoshop or out of the program and re-import the file to apply a vignette after making a crop. In the past I found it to be a trick I could apply to my advantage once in a while, but usually I had to create a duplicate to get my desired results.
  • A new color picker has been added to the program. I wonder when we will see the same color picker in other software?
  • Clarity now goes in both directions. Beforehand, clarity could only be applied in a “pop” direction. Now we can do the opposite and give the image a bit of a blur if need be.
  • A volume browser is now available if you have multiple hard drives to search through. It also shows you how much space you have to work with before you hit problems.
  • Multiple monitor support is only one button away. Can you imagine how much you would enjoy being in both loupe and grid views at the same time? I would have jumped for joy with an option like that back in the days of the dark room.
  • Picture Package has been added to light room. Now we have the option of automatically adding 4×6’s to wallet sizes on the fly. Can you imagine this happening back in 1996?
  • Print sharpening is available based on the image resolution and paper type.
  • Keyword suggestions based on your previous inputs to related images. This is a good tool for stock photographers.
  • A filter bar now consolidates the filter elements from previous versions.
  • Smart Collections allow you to build a collection based off of filter criteria and not just manual hunt & peck.
  • Autoexpose button has really improved and won’t necessarily over expose images like it used to in the past.
  • The web module allows you to link back to a page of your choice. It’s so nice that they took the coding out of it for us.
  • The last is my favorite. The slide show has been modified. You can now add music, control whether or not to loop back to the beginning, you get to add an intro page, and you get to finish with an exit page. Nice! I’ve had to do slide shows on the fly before, and any improvement here helps me a lot.
