Photographic Vacation

Although I love my normal daily life, I’m off visiting family for an extended weekend trip to Lake George, NY. While I’m on this trip, I plan to get a few good shots in with my Nikon. Between the mountains, the tourists, flower gardens, and the race track, I should have no problem getting some good pieces in before returning to Maryland.

Since I used to live here for about 6 years, I have a definite advantage on this trip for picking up good photographic subjects. It’s a bit of a no brainer for me.

For anyone else who comes up here, I would like to recommend the following places for a photo tour. I’ll apply this list for these summer months we are still in.

  1. Sleeping Beauty Mountain. I recommend camping over night on top. Don’t forget to bring your own water since there is no bathroom or water spickets. Sound like too much of a hassle? Sunrise and sunset over the mountains will be more than worth it.
  2. Buck Mountain. Near Sleeping Beauty Mountain, you will get the opportunistic view of the Lake George Village that few find in their lens.
  3. Lake Moreau. The state park located here does not allow for motorized boating, so you get a great calm water lake with people around it for a nice variety of subjects. And don’t forget the west side of the park. It’s trails are teeming with life with moss on the rocks with streams and stunning views of the Hudson River.
  4. Breakfast at the Saratoga Race Track. Go have a buffet breakfast with tuxedo donning servers while million dollar horses trot by begging for a moment with you and your camera. No joke, this might be some of the best shots you can get from a Lake George vacation.
  5. Centennial Park in Saratoga Springs. Located on the grounds of an old casino, it has been well groomed by the city to be a gold mine for even the most amateur of photographers. You can find children on the carousel, water fountains groomed with flower beds, the hilarious faces of people finding out natural spring water often doesn’t taste well. Nestled next door to all of the high end restaurants that actually give NYC a run for its money, its quite the convenient location for any photographer.
